Online Bail Bonds in California

An online inquiry can start with defendant identity, arrest location and your contact details. It does not complete every legal, financial or facility step. This guide explains the existing request workflow, what to prepare and what must be confirmed before paperwork, payment or an authorized bond proceeds. Set Free’s stated primary area is Los Angeles County; California legal guidance and location suggestions do not establish statewide service. Confirm assistance for the actual county and custody agency.

Submitting a request is not instant approval, a payment transaction or a guarantee of entirely remote release.

01 / How Online Bail Bonds Work

How online bail bonds work

Clear information. Case-specific next steps.

Families can begin a request remotely through the existing three-step inquiry. Beginning online is not the same as completing a commercial bond, signing legal documents or making a payment online. Identity requirements, applicable court decisions and facility acceptance remain case-specific.

01

An inquiry, not a contract

The public form collects initial contact and custody information; it does not itself create a surety undertaking.

02

Custody comes first

Confirm the actual agency, current booking and authorized release conditions before discussing a financial bond.

03

Remote steps need confirmation

Ask which paperwork and communications may be handled remotely; electronic signatures and online checkout are not verified services.

04

Release is independent

A successful request, receipt email or phone discussion cannot cancel a hold or authorize facility release.

After-hours telephone assistance and online submission are separate channels, not a guarantee of immediate review. Payment-plan guidance explains possible written obligations; the inquiry itself accepts no payment and approves no financing.

02 / Starting Your Bail Inquiry Online

Starting your bail inquiry online

Three steps to share what you know.

  1. Step 01

    Defendant Information

Enter the person’s legal name and any available identifying details. Date of birth or age is optional.

    Known identity—not completed verification
  2. Step 02

    Arrest Location

Identify the city, county or known custody location. Suggestions describe geography, not verified current housing; unmatched text stays unverified.

Known location—not assigned jail or court
  3. Step 03

    Your Contact Information

Provide your name, phone and email for possible follow-up. The updates preference is optional.

    Contact details—not automatic approval

This is an inquiry—not automatic bail approval, a completed surety agreement or a payment transaction. After acceptance, a thank-you page can display a temporary tab-only summary. Notification attempts do not prove email delivery or staff review.

03 / Information Needed for an Online Bail Inquiry

Information needed for an online bail inquiry

Start with what you know.

  • Defendant name

Use the legal name as accurately as possible. DOB or approximate age is optional in the current form.

  • Arrest location

Provide the known city or county of arrest. A location suggestion does not establish the current jail or court.

  • Requester contact

Enter your name, phone and email so the team can attempt follow-up; updates opt-in is optional.

  • Booking information if known

Keep agency, facility and booking number ready for later case discussion. These are not added public form fields.

  • Court details if available

Case number, exact charges, authorized release decision and known holds help later review.

  • Keep sensitive records private

Do not send bank credentials, card numbers, identification images or source-of-funds records through public messages or this inquiry.

You do not need every record before asking for help. Keep sensitive documents private; this checklist does not collect or save answers.

04 / Online vs. In-Person Bail Bonds

Online vs. in-person bail bonds

Different starting points. The same required safeguards.

Compare how assistance begins—not different standards for approval. Starting remotely does not guarantee the entire bond transaction can be completed online.

  1. 01

    Online Inquiry

    Initial contact, not completed bond
    How the inquiry begins
Start with the existing three-step website inquiry and the details you know.
    Communication methods
Submit initial details through the form; confirm available follow-up channels directly.
    Identity verification
Initial identity details are not completed identity verification. Confirm any later identification checks.
    Paperwork and signatures
The inquiry is not a surety agreement. Confirm required documents, signatures and whether any exchange can occur remotely.
    Payment arrangements
The form accepts no payment. Confirm authorized methods, filed premium and written terms before sending money.
    Possible in-person requirements
An identity check, signature or other requirement may need an in-person step; starting remotely does not remove it.
    Court and facility processing
Court authorization, lawful posting and facility acceptance remain separate from website submission.
    Release eligibility
Current orders, holds and case-specific release conditions control; a saved inquiry is not bail approval.
  2. 02

    In-Person Assistance

    Initial contact, not completed bond
    How the inquiry begins
Arrange assistance through a verified agency; confirm the actual location and appointment requirements before travel.
    Communication methods
Discuss the case directly where available; confirm how later calls, documents and updates will be handled.
    Identity verification
Confirm required identification and who must attend. An office discussion does not itself satisfy every check.
    Paperwork and signatures
Review the same legal and financial obligations. Confirm who signs and which originals or other documents are required.
    Payment arrangements
Confirm the payee, accepted method, applicable filed premium and receipt details; presence does not create a special rate.
    Possible in-person requirements
Attendance requirements depend on the case and agency. No office address or mandatory visit is assumed here.
    Court and facility processing
The same court, posting and facility procedures apply; visiting an agency does not speed or bypass them automatically.
    Release eligibility
The same court orders and holds apply. In-person assistance cannot independently authorize release.

Neither approach guarantees entirely remote completion, instant approval, a response interval or release. Verify the actual county, agency and case requirements.

05 / How Digital Paperwork Works

How digital paperwork works

Current law and individual orders matter.

Legal framework

How digital paperwork works

Read the exact statutory provision with counsel; these summaries do not assess an individual case.

PC §1278

The bail undertaking is separate from intake

What it covers
The statutory bail undertaking and appearance obligations are different from an initial website request.
What distinguishes it
A successful form does not substitute for required agreement, identity checks or posting procedures.
Classification
Legal undertaking, not an online inquiry.
Why it matters for release
Ask what lawful paperwork and signatures the actual case needs; no universal electronic-completion service is represented.

06 / Online Bail Bond Payments

Online bail bond payments

Different circumstances. Different requirements.

  1. 01

    No payment in the inquiry

The shared form does not collect card details, bank credentials or payment authorization. Saving a request is not payment.

  2. 02

    Verify the actual channel

Confirm the agency’s identity and accepted method through authentic communications before sending money. Do not act on an unsolicited payment link.

  3. 03

    Read terms first

Know the authorized amount, applicable filed premium, collateral and indemnity obligations before committing. A payment cannot remove a court hold.

Accepted methods

No Set Free card, bank-transfer, wallet or online-checkout method is verified here.

No instant approval

An inquiry does not approve financing, installments or an undertaking.

No card fields

Do not put card numbers, bank login details or security codes into public messages.

Verify payee

Check who receives the payment and obtain legitimate written terms and receipt information.

Separate collateral

A security pledge is not the same as a premium payment; confirm return conditions.

Source restrictions

A qualifying §1275.1 proceeding requires judicial review of lawful consideration; online payment cannot bypass it.

No payment integration or separate application is introduced. Ask which lawful payment arrangements, if any, are actually available.

07 / How Much Do Online Bail Bonds Cost?

How much do online bail bonds cost?

Premium, collateral and full-bond liability are separate.

Court-set amount does not change online

Beginning a request remotely does not reduce the underlying authorized bond amount or create a special online price. A bond is relevant only when financial posting is permitted.

Applicable filed premium

California premiums are most commonly around 10% in general practice. The surety’s filed rate and applicable rules determine the actual charge; no Set Free rate is verified or quoted here.

Collateral & indemnity

Security may be required separately from the premium. Read what property is pledged, return conditions and the co-signer’s potential full-bond liability before signing.

Methods and arrangements need confirmation

No online financing, card processing, payment plan or discount is claimed. Ask about actual lawful options and written terms before entering any agreement.

Refund questions

The premium is generally not refunded simply because charges are dismissed or the defendant is acquitted. Contract terms and lawful exceptions matter. Cash bail and collateral have different return rules.

Nonfinancial release

If release without financial bail is authorized, a commercial bond and its premium are unnecessary. Confirm the current release decision with the responsible agency or court.

08 / What Happens After an Online Request?

What happens after an online request?

Five stages—each subject to the actual case.

The first stage uses the current inquiry. Later review, paperwork and bond processing require confirmation; they are not automatic services promised by submitting the form.

  1. Submit inquiry

After validation and acceptance, the request is saved and the browser opens the thank-you page. Notification is attempted separately; saving does not prove inbox receipt.

  2. Confirm booking and eligibility

In subsequent case review, verify current custody, court orders, all holds and whether financial bail is authorized.

  3. Review terms and paperwork

Confirm required identification, documents, signatures and actual payment options before agreeing to a bond.

  4. Authorized bond processing

Only an authorized undertaking can be processed with the relevant authority; a source or supervision restriction must be resolved lawfully.

  5. Facility release

The responsible facility checks remaining restrictions and completes permitted release; required appearances and other conditions continue.

09 / Can Someone Be Released Without Visiting an Office?

Can someone be released without visiting an office?

Verify each stage with the responsible agency and counsel.

What may start remotely

  1. Initial informationThe current online inquiry can provide known identity, arrest location and requester contact details.
  2. Later communicationAsk whether case discussion or particular records can be handled remotely using an appropriate private channel.
  3. Convenience is conditionalRemote communication may reduce travel, but no entirely remote completion or approved electronic-signature workflow is promised.

What still requires verification

  1. Identity and paperworkApplicable identification, signatures, contractual and court requirements must be met in the actual case.
  2. Posting authorityA bond needs lawful financial authorization and appropriate acceptance; a website confirmation is not an order. In re Humphrey addresses ability to pay and less restrictive alternatives when a court considers financial detention; starting online does not change that framework.
  3. Facility requirementsThe facility’s checks, other holds and release processing remain separate from how the family first contacted the agency.

No office address or mandatory visit is invented. Confirm actual requirements directly before traveling or sending records.

Find the person. Find the court.

11 / Protecting Personal Information

Protecting personal information during an online inquiry

Verify the agency. Protect your information.

The inquiry collects initial defendant, arrest-location and contact details—not payment credentials or document uploads. An accepted request is saved privately and notification emails are attempted separately. Review the Privacy Policy before submitting; email delivery and staff follow-up are not established by a thank-you screen.

  • Verify the bail agency

Check the agency’s identity and licensing through independent official information, including the California Department of Insurance. Do not trust a caller or message solely because it uses a familiar name.

  • Avoid unsolicited payment links

Do not follow an unexpected link demanding money or promising release. Independently verify the agency and the communication before taking action.

  • Use verified channels

Share only necessary personal information through a channel you have independently confirmed with the agency. This public inquiry has no identity-document or bank-record upload.

  • Keep payment credentials out

Never enter banking credentials, credit card numbers or security codes into the current public inquiry form. It does not process payments or authorize a transfer.

  • Confirm the payment recipient

Before transferring money, verify the payee, lawful purpose, amount and accepted method. Obtain written terms and legitimate receipt information; a payment cannot override a hold.

  • Review documents and signatures

Verify who issued each document and read premium, collateral, indemnity and appearance obligations before signing. Confirm any electronic-signature option rather than assuming it is available.

  • Protect booking and personal details

Avoid public posts containing booking identifiers, dates of birth or personal records. Keep further identification and case documents for an appropriate verified private channel.

  • Understand submitted information

The Privacy Policy states that information is used to respond to inquiries and provide requested services, is not sold, and is shared only to complete requested services or as required by law. It does not specify a retention period or certify a security standard.

  • Separate the temporary summary

After acceptance, the browser attempts to keep an answer summary in this tab’s session storage for up to 30 minutes. Storage restrictions or expiry can remove the summary; its expiry does not delete the saved inquiry. No personal answers are placed in the confirmation URL or server-rendered page.

12 / Online Bail Bonds FAQs

Online Bail Bonds frequently asked questions

Straight answers, honest limits.

Content updated November 3, 2026. General information, not legal advice.

Is the website form a complete bail bond application?

No. It begins an inquiry with defendant identity, arrest location and requester contact details. Required agreements, verification, signatures and authorized posting remain separate steps.

Defendant legal name with optional DOB or age; arrest-location information; then requester name, phone and email with an optional updates preference. No new financial or document-upload fields are added.

No booking-number field is required by the current inquiry. Keep it available for subsequent case review if known; identity and known arrest location can begin the request.

No. Arrest location is not confirmed current housing or assigned court. Transfers and agency jurisdictions must be checked through official custody and case information.

It is saved and the browser opens the thank-you page. Team notification and a requester receipt are attempted separately. Saving does not prove an email was delivered or read.

The temporary summary depends on the current tab’s session storage and expires after 30 minutes. Storage restrictions, another tab or expiry can leave a generic confirmation instead; summary absence is not itself proof of failed saving.

A fully electronic signature and completion workflow is not verified. Ask which lawful signatures, identity checks and documents the actual agency and case require.

No. The current inquiry is not an online checkout and does not collect card details. Verify actual accepted payment methods and lawful written terms directly.

No. No financing or installment approval is created by the form. Any offered payment arrangement must be confirmed and understood in writing.

Starting online does not change the court-authorized amount or create a special rate. The applicable surety filed premium and rules control; no Set Free online discount is claimed.

No. The existing inquiry is not a sensitive-document portal. Verify an appropriate private channel with the agency and counsel before providing any necessary records.

Requirements vary. Remote communication may reduce travel, but identity, documentation, signatures, court and facility procedures may require additional steps. No entirely remote completion is guaranteed.

No. The location list helps describe an arrest location; it does not verify Set Free’s statewide coverage or eligibility to arrange a bond in every case. Ask about actual assistance for the responsible agency and county.

No. Court and other lawful custody restrictions remain. A saved inquiry, receipt or payment cannot independently resolve a supervision order or source-of-bail hearing.

Verify the agency, payee and authentic contact channel; read written premium, collateral and indemnity terms. Do not provide bank logins or act on an unsolicited payment link claiming guaranteed release.
